We have personally tried and tested all the units, so having used all the products we thought we would share with you our impressions.
The Micro RoadPilot's main attraction is the tiny screen, meaning it can be mounted very discreetly. The cabling can be tucked out of sight to give a neat installation, with the screen on its ball-and-socket joint arm in your chosen location, whether it's on top of the dash, near the gear stick, by the instrument dials or in fact wherever takes your fancy. The antenna, laser sensor and power plug are on leads running from the main cradle, and these cables can be brought up in the right place to avoid trailing leads unlike some other systems on the market.
On the road, the Micro has different options for the screen (the settings can be changed via a PC when updating, to avoid having to use the little button in the car too much) but the most useful display is the clear speed reading. When you approach an alert it'll bleep to warn you of the danger zone ahead and display the speed limit at the site as well.
Extra functionality includes warnings of congestion charge cameras and toll roads, and there's the option to add a super-long range radar detector which can then let you know which Gatso cameras are live and give plenty of warning of mini-Gatsos if they are being used in your area. Settings can be adjusted to eradicate almost all false alerts from the radar detector, so if you have the budget and need GPS with Radar, the Micro RoadPilot Plus Radar is the best combined GPS, Radar and Laser product available, offering the longest range radar warnings compared to the competition with a discreet mount.
| What we like |
- Discreet mount and small screen means it won't dominate your dashboard
- Long range radar add-on option is the best on the market
|
| |
What we don't like |
- It lacks the voice alert of some of its competitors (the screen is too tiny to fit it in, apparently!)
- The price of the radar add-on
