Campaign to Cut Child Road Deaths in Kent
18th January 2010
Motorists and pedestrians are being targeting during a campaign aimed at reducing the number of children killed or seriously injured on Kent's roads. 87 children were killed or seriously hurt on the roads in 2008
Kent Police plans to visit thev 40 areas near schools that have a high casualty rate, to promote road safety.
The Police said it would crack down on motorists that were breaking the law, offer advice and address the local concerns during the month long campaign.
Acting Chief Inspector Preston Chalk said: "Each year many young people aged between five and 15 years old are killed or seriously injured on the roads because they are not wearing seatbelts, or are hit by motorists that are speeding or using hand-held mobile phones or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Kent Police is working with partner agencies to raise awareness about road safety with young people and drivers, and deal with those caught taking risks through enforcement action and education."
