Bad Weather Hampering Speed Cameras

Mirror, 28th February 2008

Drivers are beating speed cameras - because Gatsos can't cope with bad weather.

The cameras struggle to get a clear picture of number plates in heavy rain or thick fog.

In Cambridgeshire on the busy A14, 14,000 of 36,000 drivers escaped fines over 12 months, figures reveal.

More than half were in emergency vehicles but a large number of others were let off as gatso photos were unclear.

John Bridge, of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce, said: "When cameras are most needed, they don't work."
