Fast drivers warned of crackdown

BBC, Friday 29th February 2008

Drivers are being warned they face increased chances of being caught speeding in Northamptonshire.

A crackdown in Kettering on 6 March will see traffic police and community support officers using hand-held speed monitors in the Margaret Road area.

Anyone caught driving over the 30mph speed limit will be given a £60 fixed penalty notice and three points on their driving licence.

The campaign will run alongside efforts to tackle drug crime in the area.

'Slow down'

Operation Metropole is a zero tolerance scheme to stop drug taking in the park at Charlotte Place, Kettering.

A mobile police station will also be in the area for the duration of the week-long crackdown on drugs and speeding drivers.

PCSO Lynn McShannon said: "We are going to be going out with the hand-held speed monitoring device in Margaret Road.

"We are warning drivers to be careful and to slow down.

"Speeding puts lives at risk and anyone we catch breaking the speed limit faces a fine and three points on their licence."
