Snooper S3/S3-R - Our Review

We have personally tried and tested all the units, so having used all the products we thought we would share with you our impressions.

The S3 is beginning to make GPS safety alerts systems affordable for all budgets, now costing less than many traditional radar detectors.

It has the same design as the S4 in looks, also sharing the same database, this is a cut-down, simpler version which still does a good job of warning you where you need it to, just without some of the more sophisticated features on the higher level units.

When driving the display is dark, so there are no unnecessary distractions, but when you approach a camera, school or accident black spot it jumps into life. Unlike the S4, the S3 has no voice alert, but has clearly audible bleeps and the display shows whether it is a camera ( C ) school ( S ) or Accident hotspot ( A ) with a bar indication of proximity.

Like the S4 and S6 it also has the option of adding the S100 radar detector unit, therefore giving unbeatable camera coverage for the price.
What we like
  • Fantastic value for money
  • Compact design
  • No unnecessary distractions when it's not in Alert mode

What we don't like
  • More of a workhorse than a fun gadget
