TR30 - Our Review

We have personally tried and tested all the units, so having used all the products we thought we would share with you our impressions.

At first glance the TR30 has quite a few components in comparison to its competitors, but once it's neatly installed with the cables and ‘brain box' hidden away, with the screen mounted in your chosen position it is tidy. The remote antenna and laser sensor mean you can put the screen where you like without affecting performance. As the GPS engine is in the brain box rather than display unit you get instant satellite lock when you put the unit on the cradle.

The screen is clear, with 3 defined areas. One shows your speed, another the time and the third shows satellite strength, so you can always check its status straightaway.

When you approach an alert zone it gives a voice alert as well as the super-clear visual alert. The unique feature of the TR30 is that it not only takes account of whether you are above or below the speed limit, but the display flashes a different colour accordingly. This means you can tell from your peripheral vision whether you need to slow down, without having to squint at a screen to find out. The factory setting will make the backlighting show green if under the limit or if the camera is on the other side of the road, but red if you are over the limit, visually screaming at you, even if you are daydreaming and ignore the voice alert.

What sets this device apart from the others is its ability to be personalised. You can change the voice (male or female), backlight colours, front fascia plate, and what you see on the screen. If you really want to get technical on the install you can also wire it up with an auto-mute cable so it will cut out your stereo when you get an alert so you cannot drown it out with loud music.

Future options are likely to include a radar detector add-on and a cable to link it up to a laser diffuser. Novelty voices are coming soon and the options for fascia plates such as carbon graphite, walnut dash etc will also increase.

What we like
  • Clear coloured alerts if speeding
  • Very customisable - multiple colours and voices etc

What we don't like
  • Largish mounting bracket
  • GPS speedo a little slow
